Lutheran Social Services Strengthening Individuals, Families and Communities 2006 Annual Report to Congregations Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota (LSS) is grateful for the many ways in which the mission of LSS is supported by congregations across South Dakota. Your prayers, volunteer activities and financial support allowed LSS to bring health and hope to nearly 41,000 people in 2006. In my first year as President of LSS, 1 have been rewarded with learning much about the work of LSS. One of those new discoveries for me - something that all of you have known for a long time - is the strength of the partnership between Lutheran Social Services, the congregations, the Synod, and all the partnership ministries. It is a symbiotic relationship in that our shared ministry brings greater strength to each of the partners. I am also blessed to follow in the footsteps of leaders that have built a diverse and stable organization that is driven by its mission and values. A mission that cares for children, that supports economic self-sufficiency through consumer credit counseling, promotes healing through mental health counseling, assists in the resettlement of refugees, and in doing all of this - strengthens families and communities. Many of the LSS programs began because a congregation or an individual member recognized a need within their community and asked LSS for assistance. I look forward to the opportunity to continue this rich tradition of working with congregations in support of our shared ministry of helping others overcome the challenges in their lives. With you, we celebrate the success of our I am looking forward to this coming year and all of the opportunities it presents. On behalf of the LSS Board of Directors and its Leadership Staff, we again thank you for your support and encouragement. Your Partner in Ministry,
