Church Council meeting Minutes
October 3, 2006

Members present: John Rasmussen, Jeff Gregg, David Staub, Susie Fischer, Vicki Schaunaman, Pat Stickland, Lyle Wolf, Dawn Hrncir, Julie Nelson, Yvonne Hippen, Fred Suurmeyer, Richard Aas, Pastor Clara Wadsworth. Also present were representatives of the Wilmot Lutheran Church.

Devotions by Pastor Clara Wadsworth

Chairman John Rasmussen called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

The council discussed items to be added to the agenda. MSC Jeff Gregg/Julie Nelson to approve the agenda as amended.

The members of the Wilmot Lutheran Church were welcomed to the meeting. They gave a report on the Pastoral Agreement between Wilmot Lutheran and Grace Lutheran. Included in the report was a summary of the salary package for Pastor Clara Wadsworth from Wilmot Lutheran Church. The agreement calls for Pastor Clara to spend 60% for Wilmot Lutheran and 40% for Grace Lutheran Church. She is in a Shared Ministry with Grace Lutheran which means she does not have a Letter of Call from Grace Lutheran Church. It was the consensus of those present that the agreement is satisfactory.

MSC Pat Stickland/Yvonne Hippen that the minutes for September 5, 2006 be approved as printed.

Reports:

Pastor Clara Wadsworth reported on visitations, weddings, and funerals. She has also been working with the Stewardship committee on commitment Sunday program. She also voiced her concern about communication with members of church council and pastoral staff at Grace Lutheran Church.

Pastor Ronald Brugger is out of town and was excused from the council meeting. Property and Management:

MSC Lyle Wolf/Fred Suurmeyer to move $1000.00 from General Fund to the Capital Reserve Fund. Lyle Wolf reported that all bills are paid and offerings have been good.

Fred Suurmeyer gave an update on status of sidewalk on the south side of building. The boiler is ready for operation when Otter Tail puts the meter in. They are waiting for a chip that goes into the meter.

Congregational Life

Yvonne Hippen, fellowship, announced that the wedding coordinators and other interested members will meet October 9, 2006 @ 5:00pm to discuss weddings.

Vickie Schaunaman, worship, reported that the Senior Choir will sing at Wilmot Lutheran Church on October 15. December 10 is the date set for the cantata, which a join venture with

Faith Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church. Estelle Pearson and Ollie Yost will attend a meeting in Aberdeen November 4 concerning the new Lutheran Hymnal. Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church will conduct the thankoffering service on November 5, 2006.

Parish Education and Youth

Michelle Nelson, youth, was at parent-teacher conferences tonight. Council was informed that help is needed at NESODAK CAMP to serve lutefisk. Retreat dates are available for the coming fall and winter at camp. 25 kids were in attendance on Friday night for the Youth Encounter Groups service in the fellowship hall. It was reported the kids (and adults) had a good time.

Old Business:

  • A. Update on the electrical poles on the south side of the church. Estimated cost of removal and burying lines was about $6000.00.
  • Electric boiler installed earlier in the church will be in operation shortly.
  • Smoke detector system: Estimates were received from companies in Fargo and Fergus Falls for installing fire and smoke detection systems in the church building. MSC Fred Suurmeyer/Vickie Schuanaman to present the smoke detector proposal at the annual meeting of Grace Lutheran Church.

New Business:

  • A. MSC Julie Nelson/Dawn Hrncir to approve the use of facilities requests for October 14, 2006 by Liz Finnesand for a baby shower; November 23, 2006 for Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner, and to table the August 11, 2007, 4:00pm wedding request until after the wedding coordinators meeting.
  • MSC Fred Suurmeyer/Jeff Gregg to place an insert in Sunday Bulletin requesting

donations to ELCA Partner Ministries-Campus Ministries.

  • ELCA World Hunger will be put on agenda for next month.
  • Update was given on Commitment Sunday Oct. 8. Pastor Clara will be preaching, slide

program for use with the Sermon has been prepared. A processional offering will be used

led by the church council and the choir.

  • The Synod Compensation Guidelines were discussed. A meeting of the officers of the

council will be held after the pledge cards are turned in on Sunday October 8.

  • MSC Pat Stickland/Yvonne Hippen to accept the Pastoral Agreement as presented by

Wilmot Lutheran Church.

The council members were instructed by Chairman John Rasmussen to compile budget estimates for their task forces and turn them into the office.

The meeting was closed with the Lord' Prayer.

The next council meeting is November 7@ 7:30. Task Forces @ 7:00pm
